Lutz: On car design

Bob Lutz is often referred to as "GM Product Supremo" Lutz. Basically, he's the guy that sets the direction of all General Motors (including Holden) cars. He's so high up that sometimes I suspect he's the guy where the buck stops but other times he seems to be intimately involved.

He has a blog, I suspect maintained by Someone Else, but it has some interesting content if you're into the business side of cars.

Lutz's blog recently featured a post on car design that is an extract of a speech he gave. If you read between the lines, it could be about any sort of product design. He says, to designers, at one point: "The best way to ensure solid direction from senior management, of course, is to become a part of it. But you have to survive and stick it out a long time to reach that goal."

Looking at the current Renault range, Renault being a company where the senior designer is on the board, and comparing it with, say, Honda's current cars, reveals a lot.
